Recent developments in EASO’s resettlement activities

In 2020 the RSF supported the resettlement of 1,017 refugees from Turkey to EU Member States, while 362 refugees have been supported so far this year through pre-departure orientation sessions.

On 16 and 17 February, the first EASO Resettlement and Humanitarian Admission Network meeting of 2021 was held with the participation of 24 Member States of the European Union and Associated Countries (EU+), including representatives from the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU, the European Commission Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs (DG HOME), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

A total of 55 participants virtually attended this meeting which not only aimed at informing on the latest developments and innovations, but also focused on the current state of play of resettlement operations at EU+ level and updates shared by DG HOME, the UNHCR and the IOM.

As Covid-19 continues to impact resettlement operations, the Network agreed on the proposed Work Plan for 2021 and the activities identified as relevant for further discussion and exchange in 2021.

In 2020 EASO supported the delivery of remote selection and pre-departure orientation missions at the Resettlement Support Facility (RSF) in Istanbul.

This will continue in 2021, taking into account all relevant Covid-19 safety measures. EASO continues to ensure that good practices from previous remote missions are implemented, such as pre-mission mock sessions.
