EASO to further enhance its operational support to Italy in 2017

EASO’s support for Italy will continue and shall be enhanced in the course of 2017. EASO and Italy have today signed a single Operating Plan, encompassing all technical and operational assistance to Italy. Support activities foreseen include: support on relocation, supporting and enhancing identification and assistance to vulnerable applicants, especially with regards to unaccompanied minors and support with handling outgoing Dublin take charge requests.

EASO to further support Greece: New Operating Plan for activities in 2017 has been put in place

EASO’ support for Greece will continue in the course of 2017. EASO and Greece have today signed an Operating Plan, encompassing all technical and operational assistance to Greece. Support activities foreseen include: support on relocation, support for the implementation of tasks under the EU-Turkey Statement, supporting and enhancing identification and assistance to vulnerable applicants, and support with absorption of EU funds.

EASO publishes a Country of Origin Information (COI) report on national service and illegal exit in Eritrea.

Today, the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) published a Country of Origin Information (COI) Report entitled ‘Eritrea – National service and illegal exit’. The report is an update of the 2015 EASO COI Report Eritrea Country Focus (1)It provides an overview on aspects related to national service and illegal exit in Eritrea relevant to international protection status determination of Eritrean applicants. In the first ten months of 2016, Eritrea ranked 7th  in the top countries of origin in EU+ countries (2) with a total of 31 416 applicants.

Two new studies highlight the significant contribution of EU Agencies to citizens and administrations

The 45 EU Agencies and Joint Undertakings make a vast contribution to the economic and political development of the European Union according to two new studies presented today during the EU Agencies Forum at the European Parliament. The studies highlight that while the EU Agencies represent less than 0.8% of the EU’s annual budget their contribution has widespread impact at citizen, industry and policy level.

PRESS RELEASE - EASO Consultative Forum 2016

On 28-29 November 2016, the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) holds its sixth Consultative Forum plenary meeting. The aim of the event, which is organised annually, is to discuss ideas and experience from Civil Society, relevant to EASO’s work, in particular, the hotspots. For the first time, this meeting is held in Athens, Greece, in order to facilitate the participation of actors operating in the field of asylum and reception in Greece. New is also the adoption of a fully participatory format, which aims to result in an authentic dialogue, and offer the participants the opportunity to proactively engage, contribute to the agenda setting, and share ideas.
