European Asylum Support Office expands its office space at its Malta Headquarters
On 9 October 2018, the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) signed a lease agreement with the Maltese authorities which will see the office space at the Agency’s premises in Valletta more than triple in size. Once completed, the new office space, which was formerly occupied by Transport Malta, will allow EASO to better-accommodate the current and planned increase in activities supporting the Common European Asylum System.

On 25-26 September 2018, EASO is holding its 29th Management Board meeting at its headquarters in Malta. During the first day of the meeting, the Management Board re-elected Mr. David Costello, the member from Ireland, as its Deputy Chair and discussed the governance framework of the agency, including the measures undertaken by the recently appointed interim Executive Director of EASO, Mr. Jamil Addou and his plans for the agency for the coming months.

Recent analyses released by the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) reveal that the number of applications for international protection lodged in the EU+ in June 2018 registered a slight decrease compared to the previous month. Approximately 51 300 applications were lodged in June; about 1 600 fewer than in May, while in the first half of 2018, some 301 390 applications were lodged in the EU+, a 15% decrease compared to the first half of 2017.
