Supporting the development of a sustainable training system in Serbia

In the framework of the Roadmap for cooperation between Serbia and EASO, aimed at helping Serbia strengthen its capacity to carry out systematic training on asylum and reception, on 2 March EASO organised a training needs assessment workshop for asylum and reception officers in Serbia.

After an in-depth illustration of the organisational structure and current training plan of the Asylum office and Commissariat for Refuges in Serbia, EASO offered a thorough insight into the Agency’s Training Needs Analysis methodology, as well as the European Sectoral Qualification Framework for Asylum and Reception Officials (ESQF). Participants showed a great interest in these EASO tools and processes, which can help identify occupational standards in the relevant areas of asylum and reception and link these job tasks with the corresponding learning outcomes and learning paths for individual officials.

EASO and Serbia agreed to continue this collaboration which will help design training plans and further training capacities, including through a pool of EASO trained trainers.

Kick-off of Implementation of the Roadmaps in Bosnia and Herzegovina

EASO kicked-off the implementation of the Roadmap for cooperation between EASO and Bosnia and Herzegovina by providing, under the coordination of the EU Delegation, advice to the reviewing process of the Asylum By-Law and addressing gaps in the corresponding procedures. Special attention was given to the procedures related to minors, personal interview, evidence submission and assessment, as well as the acts and practices ensuring the rights of asylum seekers to education and employment. EASO’s peer review supports triggered discussions over the need to introduce possible additional revisions to the Asylum By-Law, in order to make it compliant with the CEAS. EASO will continue supporting the authorities in this process and offered to facilitate examples of relevant EU Member States legislation and procedures, which Bosnia and Herzegovina could refer to.
